🏥 Healthcare for All Iowans
Iowa is facing healthcare crises. The VA is understaffed. 2/3 of our counties have no Labor & Delivery unit. We are ranked dead last in mental health care.
No one should have to choose between paying for food or getting the care they need. As an RN with experience in mental health and long term care, I’ve seen firsthand the damage underfunded and inaccessible healthcare causes. I’ll fight for affordable, accessible, and community-based care—because no one should go without medicine, drive hours in labor, suffer alone, or be bankrupted by medical bills.
Action Plan:
Protect Medicaid, Medicare, and the VA from rollbacks that leave rural Iowans underserved.
Help local hospitals restore and sustain labor and delivery units, especially in the counties with no maternity services that make up 2/3 of Iowa.
Introduce a caregiver support credit to ease financial burdens on family caregivers.
Improve funding for public and home health services for elderly and disabled Iowans.
Promote telehealth and mobile health clinics, so it’s easy for rural residents to get preventative care without long-distance travel.
🧠 Mental Health Matters
Iowa’s mental health system is rated last in our country. As someone who has worked for years in mental healthcare and currently works as a death investigator for Chickasaw county, I understand the urgent need to provide more accessible and affordable mental health services.
Action Plan:
Propose funding for Mental Health First Aid training for first responders.
Create incentives for providers to practice in mental health shortage areas.
Provide school staff with trauma-informed training and student behavioral health screenings.
Push for insurance parity laws requiring mental health coverage equal to physical health.
Fund existing evidence-based care services that focus on rehabilitation and harm reduction.
